We know Toyota Trucks are something to be respected. That’s because almost every Houston driver has seen Toyota trucks that have survived the Texas climate for decades. In the most inhospitable conditions, Toyota Trucks are trusted to do the job. Whether hauling hay bales or navigating an offroad trail, Toyota Trucks are a solid choice. Countless Houston area drivers go to Toyota of Katy for our trusted sales staff and wide selection of new Toyota trucks. Often times our customers have trouble deciding between a new Toyota Tundra and the new Toyota Tacoma because they offer something a little different but are both very capable. The Toyota Tundra generally is considered to be a heavier-duty work truck, while the Toyota Tacoma is a more nimble pickup truck with tremendous offroad capabilities. Read more below about how these two Toyota trucks compare.

The first thing most people notice when comparing a Toyota Tundra with a Toyota Tacoma is the size difference. When looking at the two most extended options, the Toyota Tundra specs show it is nearly 40 inches longer and up to seven inches wider. By being bigger, the Toyota Tundra can also offer a larger available bed, with its maximum bed size measuring 96.5 inches and a bed width of 58.7 inches, whereas the Toyota Tacoma’s bed width is only 41.5 inches. To continue the theme of added capability, the Toyota Tundra can tow over 5,000 pounds more than the smaller Toyota Tacoma, and the Toyota Tundra offers a greater payload capacity maxing out at 1940 lbs. Finally, the new Toyota Tundra features a larger available touchscreen and a roomier interior, providing drivers and passengers with more space in their seating. The large touch-screen is useful when guiding heavy loads using the available Trailer Backup Guide with Straight Path Assist or when using the Panoramic View Monitor. The Tundra is available with Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5 offering state-of-the-art safety features like Lane Departure Alert With Steering Assist, Road Sign Assist, and Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. These are just some of the many features available on the new 2023 Toyota Tundra.
The 2023 Toyota Tacoma has many strengths and lives up to the old saying that great things come in small packages. Oftentimes, being smaller is a tremendous benefit! The Toyota Tacoma specs indicate it has a starting curb weight of around 4,000 lbs. This is more than a half-ton lighter than the Toyota Tundra, which typically comes in with a curb weight of around 5,500–6,000 lbs. Lighter weight typically means better offroad performance, making this truck more nimble when overcoming challenging uneven terrain, thick mud, and steep grades. The Toyota Tacoma is also narrower, with an overall width of 74.4 inches. This means that the Toyota Tacoma can more easily maneuver through narrow, overgrown trails on that ranch down in Fort Bend County. When it’s time for a date night in downtown Houston, the narrower width and shorter length of the Toyota Tacoma make this truck easier to park in tight parallel spaces. At home, the more compact Toyota Tacoma takes up less space in a home garage. Although the touch screen is smaller, the new Toyota Tacoma features ever-present technology like the multi-terrain monitor for offroading and panoramic view monitor, both of which allow the driver to see the area around their truck and look for obstacles. Plus, Tacoma has Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS P) with features like Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pre-Collision System With Pedestrian Detection, and Automatic High Beams. There is also an available 120V/400W outlet to keep things charged up when you are away at a camp or job site.
